The Organization:

For more than 55 years, the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce has been supporting the local business community and helping our more than 300 business members thrive and prosper. We provide information, education and support to help Encinitas businesses navigate policy and legislative issues, licensing and compliance requirements. We give voice to members’ business concerns at City Council meetings, with City Planners, Government Affairs committees and other offices, where decisions and actions may impact members. The ECC also hosts a number of community events such as Oktoberfest, Salute to Education and ribbon cuttings, among others, to bring members and residents together for an inclusive, vibrant and prosperous community. Our office is located in beautiful Encinitas and operates the Encinitas Visitor Center as well as the Chamber. Office hours are 10:00am – 4:00pm Monday – Friday.

Job Description: Summary

We’re looking for an extremely organized and creative individual to join the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce team as our Events and Marketing Coordinator. In this role, you will be the lead marketing professional and event planner for the Chamber. You will leverage your broad understanding of marketing and event planning, promoting the Encinitas Chamber through a variety of both online and off-line marketing channels. This is a hands-on role, requiring you to be both a strategic and creative thinker as well as a day-to-day implementer. It has high visibility in the community, providing a truly exceptional leadership opportunity for a young marketing professional looking to make his or her mark while building the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce’s brand.

About You:
  • You are enthusiastic about helping strategize, design and implement cost-effective marketing plans for a non-profit association that serves more than 300 businesses in Encinitas
  • You are able to work independently and want creative freedom, authority, and responsibility
  • You’re extremely organized and detail-oriented
  • You love planning and managing events (or want to learn how)
  • You love interacting with people both online and in-person
  • You have strong project management skills, able to juggle multiple projects and tasks and keep them all moving in the same direction
  • You have a strong familiarity with social media tools and have a track record of creatively using them to promote a product, service and/or events
  • You’re a self-starter who asks questions and takes the initiative when you discover an opportunity to improve a marketing piece, a process or find a better way to leverage technology to get things done more efficiently
Essential Duties:
  • Develop and implement social media campaigns and content to keep the Chamber’s social channels fresh and engaging
  • Maintain Constant Contact database to keep it current
  • Maintain our press list and send press releases for select events
  • Coordinate and create marketing for monthly member mixer: Send out multiple email invitations; setup Eventbrite page for registration; post to social channels; update the email to guests post-event
  • Coordinate and create marketing for 3-4 annual events:  Send out multiple email invitations; setup Eventbrite page for registration; post to social channels; update the email to guest attendees post-event; create signage, flyers, ads as needed
  • Manage communication calendar, including electronic newsletters, event announcements and other communication pieces designed to deepen engagement
  • Manage Chamber WordPress website, keeping content up-to-date and fresh while looking for opportunities to enhance web presence
  • Production of digital web and print design pieces
  • Photograph attendees at events for social media and newsletter
  • Other duties assigned as needed
Employment Qualifications:
  • Creativity and a “can-do” attitude and excitement to grow the role along with the organization
  • 1-3 years of marketing experience
  • Comfortable editing WordPress website (or other web CMS platforms), social media platforms and tools
  • Proficient in Photoshop Elements
  • Familiarity with Constant Contact, or similar programs
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Event planning experience or a willingness to learn
  • Must have a firm understanding of changing technology, including software and tools for Web design
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and their use for business as well as community engagement tactics
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, effectively prioritize work and adjust to changing workloads and deadlines with attention to detail
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with other members of the team to achieve organizational goals
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations or related field
Employment Status:
  • 30 Hours Per Week: non-exempt, $17 – $20 per hour, DOE
  • Accountability: This position reports directly to the CEO of the Encinitas Chamber.
